ABOUT COCONUT

The coconut, also popularly known as the “Tree of Life”, owes its name to the wide variety of products which can be derived from its various parts – from the leaves down to its roots aside from the significant role it plays in the nation’s economic growth. Name it, the coconut has it. Food, Shelter and Fuel.

Pith

Out of its pith can be produce coco pickles, guinatan and lumpia.

Inflorescence

Out of the bud of the coconut tree’s inflorescence is a juice called coconut toddy or tuba. The fermented Juice is the common alcoholic drink in the coconut region. Other Products out of the coconut tree’s inflorescence are gin, vinegar, candy trays, Christmas and wall decors.

Leaves

Coconut leaves produce good quality paper pulp, midrib brooms, hats and mats, fruits trays, waste baskets fans, midrib decors, lamp shades, place mats, bags, and utility roof materials.

Spathe and Guinit

It’s “guinit” can produce helmets, caps, “bakya” straps, handbags, fans, picture and house decors, like lamp shades and guinit flowers for the table.

Trunk

 Out of the coconut trunk, hardly and durable wood is obtained to make various pieces of furniture and novelty items. Paper pulp can also be extracted from the trunk.

Roots

Medicine, beverages, and dye stuff are obtained from its roots.

Young Nut

Meat and water from  the the young nut can be taken as a health and refreshing food and drink. It is also used as a main ingredient for salad, and other sweet delicacies.

Husk

Coconut husk contains 10% bristle fiber, 20% mattress fiber, and 70% coir dust or shorts or wastes. The husk which is usually discarded can be utilized to produce a wide veriety of useful products from ropes, mats fishing nets to household walling and flooring materials.

Water

Aside from its popular use in the production of coco vinegar, coco wine, coconut water also has important clinical applications such as in trating renal disorders and in the production of clinical dextran.

Meat

Coconut meat is good source  of protein and an effective laxative. It is also a source of other products such as coco flour, desiccated coconut, coco milk, coco chips, candies, latik, copra and animal feeds.

Shell

From the shell, you can produce handicraft, novelty items, charcoal briquettes for cooking and activated carbon which is widely used in purification systems.
