Performance of PH’s Top Non-Traditional Coco Products Export in January

Official data from the Philippine Statistics Authority show over a dozen non-traditional coconut products generated revenue of more than USD100,000 during the month to qualify in the sector’s top exports list. These were: coconut water, virgin coconut oil, glycerin, coconut milk liquid, biodiesel, coco milk powder, coir & coir products, toilet/bath soap, nata de coco, coco peat/dust, coco flour, laundry soap and diethanolamide.

COCONUT WATER, this month’s top non-traditional export product, generated USD6.625 million from shipment of 6.228 million liters.  The volume was 26.8% higher than last year at 4.913 million liters.  The United States was primary destination controlling 4.091 million liters (65.7% of total), followed far behind by United Kingdom at 1.104 million liters (17.7%).  Smaller volumes went to France at 255,570 liters (4.1%) and Canada at 144,069 liters (2.3%).  Sixteen other countries shared the balance of 633,922 liters (10.2%).

VIRGIN COCONUT OIL had gross export receipts of USD5.548 million from sale of 1,776 MT and settled in the second place.  Volume during the month was 85.8% higher  than year-ago at 956 MT.  Market leader was the United States, capturing 836 MT (47.1%), followed some distance behind by Netherlands at 250 MT (14.1%), Germany 149 MT (8.4%), Brazil 134 MT (7.6%) and a dozen other countries with combined volume of 406 MT (22.9%).

GLYCERIN which took the third spot turned in USD1.743 million from trade of 2,395 MT.  However, volume during the month was 13.8% below the previous year at 2,779 MT.  Japan was top destination at 1,069 MT (44.6%), trailed by China at 919 MT (38.4%).  Limted quantities went to Russia at 193 MT (8.1%), South Korea at 138 MT (5.7%) and three other countries with combined uptake of 77 MT.

Fourth in rank COCONUT MILK LIQUID recorded proceeds of USD1.223 million from delivery of 823 MT.  Volume during the month was 34.2% above the previous year at 613 MT.  Thailand was principal outlet at 382 MT (46.5%), followed by United States at 202 MT (24.6%), Canada 66 MT (8.0%) and seven other countries which shared the remaining 172 MT.

BIODIESEL with turnover of USD643,740 from overseas purchases of 238 MT (no export recorded year-ago) landed fifth.  There were only three country destinations with Germany as almost an exclusive market at 210 MT (88.2%), Hong Kong took in 19 MT (7.9%) and Belgium at 9 MT (3.8%).

Sixth top export COCO MILK POWDER had income of USD518,167 from dealings covering 107 MT (56 MT).  Japan was primary market capturing 28 MT (25.7%), closely trailed by Netherlands 27 MT (25.4%), United States 18 MT (17.2%), Italy 16 MT (15.2%) and three other countries which collectively took in 18 MT.

COIR & COIR PRODUCTS, which took the seventh slate, generated USD273,686 in foreign exchange receipts. Tonnage was at 874 MT (235 MT).  There were only three importing countries. China captured the biggest chunk at 792 MT (90.6%), Japan held 58 MT (6.6%) and Spain 24 MT (2.8%).

TOILET/BATH SOAP held the eighth slot after earning USD236,210 from sale of 139 MT.  Volume during the month sharply dropped by 48.1% from previous year at 269 MT. Vietnam was key market at 60 MT (43.0%), followed by Thailand 46 MT (32.9%), India 15 MT (10.9%), Hong Kong 7 MT (5.1%) and seven other countries with total uptake of 11 MT.

NATA DE COCO was top 9 non-traditional export contributing USD225,081 from shipment of 319 MT (354 MT). There were only three country buyers: Japan at 284 MT (89.1%), Malaysia 25 MT (7.8%) and South Korea 10 MT (3.1%).

COCO PEAT/DUST held the tenth position and contributed USD209,564 from transactions involving 3,042 MT (903 MT). There were only four country buyers: Almost all of the volume was sold to China at 2,814 MT (92.5%), South Korea absorbed 160 MT (5.3%), Japan 47 MT (1.5%) and Malaysia 22 MT.

Completing the top 13 non-traditional exports were coco flour, laundry soap and diethanolamide. COCO FLOUR had revenue of USD203,936 from trade of 183 MT (77 MT).  Brazil took in 66 MT (36.0%), trailed by United States at 56 MT (30.6%), Iraq 39 MT (21.1%), Australia 21 MT (11.7%), while two other countries shared the balance of 1 MT.

LAUNDRY SOAP generated USD109,311 from overseas delivery amounting to 26 MT (5 MT). There were only three country destinations: Kuwait at 23 MT (89.6%), Taiwan 2 MT (6.5%) and Afghanistan 1 MT (3.9%).

DIETHANOLAMIDE with turnover of USD102,905 sold 55 MT (no export recorded year-ago). There were two country destinations: India at 42 MT (76.2%) and China at 13 MT (23.8%).
