Philippine Export of Coconut Products Down in December 2017
Thursday, March 15, 2018Official data from the Philippine Statistics Authority show the Philippines exported in December last year 119,607 MT of coconut products expressed in copra terms. This is 14.3% lower than same month year-earlier total at 139,560 MT. Gross export receipts likewise dropped 18.1% to USD155.207 million from USD189.545 million.
The major exports reported shorfalls in volume traded: coconut oil dropped 12.2% to 65,457 MT from 74,531 MT, copra meal fell 8.0% to 32,324 MT from 35,128 MT, desiccated coconut shrank 35.7% to 6,444 MT from 10,029 MT, oleochemicals tripped 0.1% to 5,744 MT from 5,751 MT. There was no export of copra during the month as last year.
Other coconut products performed as follows, in MT: coco shell charcoal 3,524 (+106.0% from 1,711 year-ago), activated carbon 5,099 (-12.1% from 5,801), virgin coconut oil 1,247 (-19.9% from 1,557), coco water 5.723 million liters (-24.1% from 7.544 million), fresh coconuts 77,231 nuts (+90.2% from 40,601), Others 4,905 (-16.7% from 5,886).
Total export for calendar year 2017 stood at 1,692,759 MT in copra terms, topping by 26.7% the figure at the same time last year at 1,335,752 MT. Revenue at USD2.268 billion was all-time high, hitting USD2.000 billion for the first time. This bested prior year data at USD1.702 billion by 33.2%.
Breakdown by commodity is as follows, in MT: copra 111 (59 year-ago), coconut oil 912,631 (726,827), copra meal 256,173 (274,609), desiccated coconut 115,005 (91,220), oleochemicals as copra 66,221 (40,967); Coco shell charcoal 33,690 (28,327), activated carbon 70,352 (60,162), virgin coconut oil 26,860 (26,290), coco water 85.545 million liters (63.870 million), fresh coconuts 1.462 million nuts (5.814 million), others 133,109 (95,767).
