US Import of Lauric Oils Down in December 2019
Thursday, March 5, 2020Oil World figures reveal US import of lauric oils in December 2019 totaled 72,000 MT, dropping by 7.5% from 77,800 MT in the same month year-ago. Of this total, coconut oil was 62.2% or 44,800 MT (42,000 MT year-ago) while palm kernel oil accounted for 37.8% or 27,200 MT (35,800 MT).
Indonesia was top supplier of lauric oils to the US during the month with shipment of 41,600 MT (31,800 MT), the equivalent of 57.8% of total lauric oil import. This consisted of palm kernel oil at 21,700 MT (31,500 MT) and coconut at 19,900 MT (300 MT). The Philippines shared 32.9% or 23,700 MT (40,500 MT) of coconut oil only. Malaysia contributed 7.6% or 5,500 MT (4,200 MT) of which palm kernel oil was 5,400 MT (4,100 MT) and coconut oil was 100 MT (100 MT). Purchases from other countries totaled 1,300 MT (1,300 MT) of which 1,200 MT (1,100 MT) was coconut oil and 100 MT (200 MT) was palm kernel oil.
Import for calendar year 2019 at 815,100 MT was slightly behind by 2.4% from same time last year figure at 834,800 MT. Coconut oil was 468,000 MT (481,500 MT) of which 65.8% or 307,800 MT (350,300 MT) came from the Philippines. Palm kernel oil was 347,100 MT (353,300 MT) of which 76.3% or 264,900 MT (270,500 MT) originated from Indonesia.
