Philippine Export of Coconut Products Down in April
Thursday, June 25, 2020Official data from the Philippine Statistics Authority revealed the country’s export of coconut products in April totaled 107,804 MT expressed in copra terms. This is almost half of same month last year figure at 216,721 MT (-50.3%). Gross expor receipts, however, did not drop as much with total at USD100.045 million shedding 38.8% from prior year at USD163.458 million.
Export of coconut oil plunged 56.7% at 53,629 MT from 123,946 MT while by-product copra meal fell modestly by 4.1% at 26,231 MT from 27,351 MT. Desiccated coconut shipment was scaled back by 14.7% at 8,336 MT from 9,768 MT as opposed to oleochemicals which more than doubled at 9,791 MT as copra from 4,879 MT (+100.7%).
Other products performed as follows, in MT: coco shell charcoal 4,405 (-43.3% from 7,764 last year), activated carbon 4,592 (-42.4% from 7,979), virgin coconut oil 1,382 (-18.9% from 1,705), coco water 2.639 million liters (-72.7% from 9.671 million), fresh coconuts 18 (-90.4% from 188), Others 10,994 (-15.1% from 12,954).
Total export for the four-month period to April accumulated to 605,772 MT in copra terms, reducing by 8.3% same period last year shipment at 660,841 MT. Breakdown is as follows, in MT: coconut oil 320,494 (366,992 year-ago), copra meal 86,682 (111,701), desiccated coconut 47,651 (42,214), oleochemicals as copra 23,380 (13,049);
Coco shell charcoal 27,926 (22,065), activated carbon 25,730 (27,391), virgin coconut oil 6,618 (6,430), coco water 7.892 million liters (26.318 million), fresh coconuts 74 (940), Others 85,139 (50,672)
