Chinese Import of Lauric Oils Down in November 2020

Data from Oil World show China imported 95,600 MT of lauric oils in November 2020, sharply down by 11.1% from same period year-ago at 107,500 MT. Palm kernel oil remained the dominant lauric oil import amounting to 80,500 MT (84.2% share) while coconut oil was only 15,100 MT (18.8%). Last year’s import of palm kernel oil was 96,500 MT and coconut oil was 11,000 MT.
Indonesia remained the country’s major source of lauric oil accounting for 60.6% of total import with delivery of 57,900 MT (86,000 MT year-ago) consisting of 50,300 MT (78,400 MT) of palm kernel oil and 7,600 MT (7,600 MT) of coconut oil. Malaysia was responsible for 36.7% with total amounting to 35,100 MT (18,200 MT) of which 30,200 MT (18,100 MT) was palm kernel oil and 4,900 MT (100 MT) was coconut oil. The Philippines contributed 2,100 MT (3,100 MT) of coconut oil only. Supply from other countries was 500 MT (200 MT) of coconut oil only.
Total imports in January-November stood at 787,100 MT, down by 22% from 1.009 million MT at the same time last year. Palm kernel oil was 644,900 MT (847,800 MT) and 71.8% was supplied by Indonesia at 462,800 MT (701,100 MT). Coconut oil was 142,200 MT (161,600 MT) and bulk of which at 87,700 MT (94,900 MT) representing 61.7% likewise came from Indonesia. The Philippines contributed 28.1% to total coconut oil import.
