Figures from Sri Lanka Coconut Development Authority show, the country’s export of coconut kernel products in calendar year 2020 increased 17 from a similar period a year earlier.  Total value of shipment was Rs63,292.56 million (USD341.49 million) as against Rs54,328.21 million (USD304.07 million).  Coconut milk, desiccated coconut and virgin coconut oil were the top three foreign exchange earners during the year, the same ranking observed in prior year.  Their total turnover was Rs41,469.47 million (Rs35,499.10 million year-ago) which represented 66% of gross receipts from kernel products.
The three leading export earners recorded double-digit growth in revenue as well as in volume, excepting desiccated coconut which recorded losses in both parameters.  Coconut milk export hiked 28 percent to 46,626 MT from 36,396 MT with value showing a leap by 40 percent to Rs15,405.55 million from Rs11,025,21 million.  Desiccated coconut slashed shipment by 40 percent to 29,591 MT from 49,667 MT though decline in revenue was moderate at 9 percent at Rs14,119.37 million from Rs15,501.87 million.  Virgin coconut oil export spiked 18 percent to 14,584 MT from 12,344 MT, with income growing significantly by 33 percent at Rs11,944.55 million from Rs8,972.02 million.
The next five major export earners generated Rs18,581.92 million (Rs14,637.89 million year-ago).  This included coconut cream, coconut milk powder, coconut water, coconut oil, and fresh nuts, in that order.  Export proceeds showed marked upturn over last year for all products but fresh nuts.  In volume terms, huge increments were likewise recorded except in coconut milk powder and fresh nuts, shown following in MT:  coconut cream 15,048 (10,987 year-earlier), coconut milk powder 6,751 (7,448), coconut water 17,910 (10,851), coconut oil 5,180 (4,056), fresh nuts (‘000 nuts) 15,838 (21,426).
