U.S. Import of Lauric Oil Up in January this Year
Thursday, March 25, 2021Data from Oil World show the U.S. imported 83,600 MT of lauric oils in January, an increase by 20.6% from January year-ago at 69,300 MT with coconut oil contributing bulk of the import mix. Coconut oil accounted for 51.4% of lauric oil total with 43,000 MT (51,300 MT year-ago), while palm kernel oil comprised the remaining 48.6% with 40,600 MT (18,000 MT).
Indonesia was top supplier of lauric oil to the U.S. during the month with shipment of 34,700 MT (16,100 MT), of which 31,300 MT (10,200 MT) was palm kernel oil and 3,400 MT (5,900 MT) was coconut oil, the equivalent of 41.5% of lauric oil total. The Philippines contributed 39.2% at 32,800 MT (41,500 MT) of coconut oil only. Malaysia shared 17.7% at 14,800 MT (10,700 MT), of which 9,200 MT (7,700 MT) was palm kernel oil and 5,600 MT (3,000 MT) was coconut oil. Deliveries from other countries totaled 1,300 MT (900 MT) of which 1,200 MT (800 MT) was coconut oil and 100 MT (100 MT) was palm kernel oil.
