Krill Oil Supplementation for Beauty Gaining Traction in Japan

Thursday, March 31, 2022

Aker BioMarine has claimed krill oil supplementation is gaining traction among Japanese beauty seekers, reports the NutraIngredients-Asia on March 07.  The company has recently set up office in Tokyo but has been active in the Japanese market for over 10 years.  “Krill oil is derived from small organisms named krill that are red-colored crustaceans, similar to shrimp, that flourish in extremely cold waters and are mostly found near the Antarctic Ocean.”  It is rich in EPA and DHA Omega -3s.

Speaking to NutraIngredients-Asia, Anette Yamamoto-Hansen, representative director at Aker BioMarine Japan K.K., said krill oil was increasingly popular in Japan as consumers recognized its beauty benefits.  A successful example is a krill oil product launched with its brand partner Shiratori Pharmaceutical in the Kyushu region last Spring.  The product is not a Foods with Function Claim (FFC).  However, on its packaging, one can find the statement “beauty will reach your body”, while drugstores also have promotional content to educate consumers on the uses of the product, report said.
