Sri Lanka Coco Kernel Products Export Up in December

Data from Sri Lanka Coconut Development Authority show the country’s coconut kernel products export December 2021 reached Rs7,380.61 million (USD37.08 million), a sharp leap by 41% from Rs5,249.12 million (USD28.32 million) in the same month a year earlier.  The top five export earners increased revenue by 36% at Rs6,400.81 million (USD32.16 million) from Rs4,701.40 million (USD25.37 million) and collectively accounted for 88% of total kernel products uptake.

Coconut milk was leading export revenue generator during the month, dislodging desiccated coconut which took the second spot. Coconut milk turned in Rs1,927.26 million, higher by 28% than prior year at Rs1,500.09 million. Desiccated coconut turnover was Rs1,850.47 million, a 62% spike from Rs1,141.24 million.  Virgin coconut oil followed with income of Rs1,216.43 million (+17% from Rs1,035.171 million), coconut cream at Rs768.16 million (+28% from Rs600.84 million), and coconut milk powder at Rs638.49 million (+51% from Rs423.52 million).

In terms of volume, coconut milk recorded the biggest shipment at 4,784 MT (4,218 MT year-earlier), trailed by desiccated coconut at 3,178 MT (2,114 MT), coconut cream 1,639 MT (1,373 MT), virgin coconut oil 1,272 MT (1,108 MT), and coconut milk powder 627 MT (401 MT).  Total export for calendar year 2021 is as follows, in MT:  coconut milk 53,255 (+14% from 46,626 year-earlier), desiccated coconut 36,116 (+22% from 29,591), coconut cream 19,583 (+30% from 15,048), virgin coconut oil 14,960 (+3% from 14,584), coconut milk powder 7,442 (+10% from 6,751).  Combined export proceeds at Rs74,378.11 million shot up 37% from Rs53,406.08 million and comprised 86% of total income from kernel products export.
