Destinations of Coconut Oil Export in January

Export of coconut oil in January consisted of 75,209 MT crude coconut oil, 17,763 MT RBD (refined, bleached & deodorized or fully refined) coconut oil, and 4,036 MT cochin (refined, bleached) coconut oil.  Europe remained the primary destination with uptake of 62,417 MT or 64.3% of total coconut oil mix.  The United States took in 14,073 MT (14.3%), trailed by Malaysia with 11,674 MT (12.0%), Japan 3,963 MT (4.1%), China 3,122 MT (3.2%), and 10 others which held limited tonnages. 

Export to Europe was largely crude coconut oil, the market leader in the sector.  Total purchases stood at 56,866 MT (Netherlands 43,151, Italy 11,250, Spain 2,465).  The US was distant second at 12,000 MT, followed by Malaysia 5,400 MT, Japan 450 MT, Thailand 329 MT, and Sri Lanka 164 MT.  Shipment of cochin oil went for the most part to Japan at 3,480 MT, while smaller load went to the US at 557 MT.

Europe likewise led in RBD coconut oil trade cornering 5,551 MT (Netherlands 3,257, Latvia 2,000, Belgium 275, Germany 19).  Following behind were Malaysia at 6,274 MT, China at 3,122 MT, US at 1,517 MT and nine others with smaller orders.  The latter included South Korea 470 MT, Pakistan 267 MT, Singapore 183 MT, Taiwan 139 MT, Australia 118 MT, South Africa 68 MT, Japan 33 MT, Hong Kong 11 MT, and Canada 10 MT.
