Philippine Export of Coconut Products Up in October 2022

Data from the Philippine Statistics Authority show export of coconut products by the Philippines climbed 5.3% in October 2022 from a similar month a year earlier.  Total stood at 193,465 MT in copra terms as against 183,796 MT previously.  Corresponding revenue, however, dropped by 11.2% to USD204.206 million from USD229.933 million.
Coconut oil was responsible for the rise in export aggregate with shipment climbing 17.9% year-on-year at 109,770 MT from 93,101 MT.  Other major products depicted declines.  Copra meal contracted 10.5% at 18,597 MT from 20,787 MT; desiccated coconut slumped 34.8% at 10,512 MT from 16,118 MT; oleochemicals shrank 73.2% at 2,975 MT as copra from 11,097 MT.  
Performance in other products is as follows, in MT: coco shell charcoal 9,182 (-2.2% from 9,390), activated carbon 5,768 (-4.3% from 6,030), virgin coconut oil 1,778 (+6.1% from 1,676), coco water 10,369 (+16054.4% from 64), fresh coconuts 8 (-84.4% from 54), Others 15,848 (-27.9% from 21,986).
Export in January-October 2022 reached 1,942,259 MT in copra terms, exceeding by 39.4% same time last year total at 1,393,660 MT. Gross export receipts likewise leaped by 43.3% at USD2.866 billion from USD2.000 billion. This year export earnings will likely hit the USD3.000 billion-mark.
Breakdown by commodity follows, in MT: coconut oil 1,048,983 (688,024 year-ago), copra meal 291,926 (250,410), desiccated coconut 132,341 (132,693), oleochemicals as copra 72,596 (96,405); Coco shell charcoal 96,410 (91,261), activated carbon 69,509 (61,630), virgin coconut oil 22,456 (26,160), coco water 110,969 (13,329), fresh coconuts 165 (667), others 209,905 (294,786).
